I attended a Caucus meeting tonight. My only intention was to go and be elected as a county and/or state delegate. Well, I not only got my wish, but I was also elected to be the secretary of our precinct (as if I don't already have enough to do).
This is cool because I hold the future of potential candidates in my hands. Wa-ha-ha! As a delegate I basically get to decide who will be on the ballot. Supposidly I will be whinned and dined and they are going to listen to me. YES!
I remember when I was in high school talking with my friend Tony Mottes as driving past the Roy City Office Building. We were talking politics and I said I was never going to get involved. I would vote (completing my civic duty) and that was it. I severely disliked politics and the "corrupt officials." This is what I get for saying never.
I got into college and realized just how important it was that we did more than vote. Voting helps to create some change, but not the kind of change I wanted. So, I did the unthinkable ;) I got involved in government. The experience has been invaluable. This world is run by politics so I better learn how to play the game.
I has been a fun ride and now I will get to see how things work from the grass-roots level on up. Jump on and enjoy the ride! Elections 2006, here we come!
